[ the second floor ]
Ylivieska, Finland 15-17.1.1999
Invitation v1.0
1. WHAT?
Elevator is a computer-sceneparty, which will be now organized for
the second time. Last year everything worked perfectly, and no problems
were encountered. This year the organizers aim again at an operative
party (considering the people's needs), where no-one should have any
complaining. That's why we could gladly hear your wishes.
Drop us an e-mail.
2. WHERE?
Elevator will be organized again at the Ylivieska upper level
comprehensive school (ylaste). Ylivieska is a city of 13.500 residents
located at the southern areas of Oulu province. Distance to the nearest
bigger cities, Oulu & Kokkola is 130km & 80km. Ylivieska lies by the
main railroad, where you can get also via direct railway connection
from Iisalmi twice a day.
The city center lies at a distance of 1 km, where you can find for
example 6 bars, 2 groceries, 2 pizzerias, 3 grills, 1 hamburger
restaurant, briefly said everything you need. A smaller grocery can be
founded 200m:s from the partyplace.
NOTE!: We will arrange signs by the sides of the roads and to the railway
station (1500m), so that everyone could find their way to the partyplace
at the first attempt. Taxi-stand is next to the railway station.
3. WHEN?
The date is 15-17.1.1999. Based on the information available at the
writing moment of this text, there will be no bigger parties at the
turn of the year neither in Finland nor in neighbouring countries
(except TP8 in Denmark). So we will gladly welcome you and your friends.
4. WHAT COSTS?
The entrance fee is 100 FIM (around 20$). For value for your money, we
will give you a badge (which allows you to enter) and a voting-id. The
purpose of this party is NOT to yield any profit to organizers. All money
left after deducting expenses will be used for prizes.
You may also inform your coming in advance, when you pay 80 FIM (16$).
E-mail us your name. When you arrive, tell your name to the
booking-clerk.
Naturally we will let girls and foreigners enter for free. Girls do not
get a badge. Foreigners, bring your passport with you.
5. FACILITIES
- Tables for 100 computers (more will be arranged, if needed). Room for
MUCH more people.
- Enough electricity. However, bring your own extension cords.
- Really quiet sleeping rooms, not next to partyhall.
- Brand new showers directly next to the partyhall. Even own one for
girls.
- Very high quality PA-system. We guarantee that the organizers will
NOT break your ears by playing music too loud, so you won't need any
earplugs during the competitions. We won't also play any extra-music,
as there probably will be enough noise already.
- Twisted pair LAN for everyone. It will be able to borrow and buy
cables from us if you don't have one on your own. If the TP-ports run
out, the rest will be connected using common BNC-cables. These we will
not supply. A Linux-based server. Also cheap network cards will be sold
(under 200 FIM).
- Big enough screen, where partycam *LIVE*.
- Network based voting. For excitement, votes will be counted one vote
at a time. You will be able to watch the counting either on the screen
or on your monitor thru the network (you'll see the competition you
want). A personal ID-number will be included in every badge, so the
classic votedisk larking will be impossible.
- A caf with fair prices.
- Pizzas from Kotipizza will be delivered directly to the partyplace.
The price will be 30 FIM (no profit for us). When there is at least 10
orders waiting, it will be sent.
6. RULES
- It's unnecessary to prohibit people from drinking alcohol, however
DON'T do it inside or in close proximity to entrance.
- Smoking inside is absolutely prohibited.
- The organizers are not responsible of any stolen or broken equipment
in no way. In other words, you bring your stuff on your own
responsibility.
- Everyone assumes the responsibility of any broken things by himself.
- The organizers have the right to remove a person from the partyplace
if this has broken any of these rules or Finnish laws.
- The organizers have also the right to modify these rules.
- By attending Elevator'99 you acknowledge these rules at the same time.

Entries must be delivered on diskette(s), CD-ROM, or ZIP-diskette to the
infodesk. Another way is to upload them directly to the FTP-server.
However, the application sheet (available from the infodesk) must be
delivered to the infodesk even if you used the latter option. In
Wild-compo we will use VHS-tapes (when it is a question of video).
We will not return the ordinary diskettes, but the others we will if
you remember to inquire them back.
You will be able to test your demo or intro before the actual compo
on the competition machine at the points of time reserved to them.
Every contribution will be reviewed by a jury, which will consist of
two organizers and four visitors. Jury will treat productions
anonymously (as far as possible) and will choose a suitable amount of
contributions to the actual competition. Jury has the right to
disqualify a production, which contains bad taste, copyrights, racism or
illegality.
We reserve the right to burn a low-cost CD-ROM containing all
productions. We have no assurance regarding this.
8. PRIZES
There will be 6 competitions with money prizes. We try to arrange some
extrastuff to other compos (fastcompos, surprises). Winners of those
6 competitions will also get nice cups. The money will be paid after the
party, not at the partyplace.
The money left after expenses will be paid in the following form:
: DEMO INTRO MUSIC MP3 GFX WILD : tot
----+------------------------------------------------------+-------
1. : 14% 11% 8% 5% 8% 8% : 54%

----+------------------------------------------------------+-------
tot : 29% 21% 14% 8% 14% 14% :
